"Diddy" for "ditty"

I’ve seen plenty of rferences to “a little diddy”, and similar phrasings, where “diddy” is being used in place of “ditty”:

This diddy is actually about my friend Mike Jones (not the rapper…although, it would be cool if he and I were friends…). He is a pretty cool dude, and one of my best friends…

Just finished a little diddy for “Frangela” hope the girls dig it!

In my mind, “a little diddy” conjures up images of a tiny version of rapper Sean Combs, something that was clearly on the mind of this reporter:

Diddy has written a little diddy about Kim Porter – and the title of it may not be one she wants to show the couple’s kids.
