An admittedly very rare cross-language reshaping. “Blitzkrieg” means “lightning war” in German, but the Wikipedia article on the term (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blitzkrieg) attributes the first usage in print to an (apparently) American journalist who was describing the German invasion of Poland in 1939. Like a Panzer division, a creek in full spate can sweep away everything in its path with shocking speed.
The final instance below is something of a double eggcorn: The Ramones’ 1976 debut became the granddaddy of all pop-punk albums, and its first song was the gloriously dumb/fun anthem “Blitzkrieg Bop.” Examples:

I dont exactly approve of Gen. Pattons blitzcreek on steroids approach, but I really did’nt agree with Monty’s pussy footin approach either.
