Plagiarize >> Plaguerize (sometimes with the British spelling "-ise")

Are editors feeling plagued by plagiarism?

Re: Plagiarize >> Plaguerize (sometimes with the British spelling "-ise")

In order for this to be an eggcorn and not a misspelling, I think the connection must be to the nature of the act of plagiarism, rather than to its frequency. I wonder, for instance, if a connection is being made to parasitism – to plaguerize is to parasitize someone else’s efforts?

To back up your suggestion, Jim, I admit that it is possible to find a series of quotes from the internet where the rampancy of plaguerism is being highlighted.

It was therefore enlightening this week to see various news reports regarding a survey into the widespread problem of plaguerism amongst A-Level students.

Sadly the complaint was uttered that too many cases of plaguerism where being detected and especially the follow up on each case was taking up time and resources.
