This gets 299 Google hits. I’m not sure it qualifies as an eggcorn, but it does seem to be based on an eggcornesque reinterpretation linked to the idea of direction (of mental attention, in this case) implicit in “onto”.
I wouldn’t be surprised if some users also had a vague association with the expression “being on to something”.
