'dully noted' for 'duly noted'

The slightly stuffy phrase ‘duly noted’ carries the connotation that the noticer has met an obligation, perhaps without enthusiasm. That connotation begins to overlap with the idea of dull, unmotivated effort. 29k ghits vs. 400k ghits for the original. Examples:

Your opinion is dully noted and dismissed as just another Neo-con trying to bring the democrat down.

Your bullshit is dully noted. I’ll stick to my original opinion.

It was also dully noted on the news last night that President Obama has an 81% approval rating in Canada.

It is dully noted however that Prof. Kleinwachter, a special adviser, and Parminder, the IGC co-chairman voiced their support for observers.

This is to acknowledge the receipt of your mail response, whole contents were dully noted.

Re: 'dully noted' for 'duly noted'

I would say about “dully/duly” the same thing that Pat just said about my “cueless/clueless” posting. That is,”dully” is probably a misspelling of “duly” for a large number of those who write the word. If there were fewer than a dozen cases of this error, the spelling stance might be tenable. However, with thousands of examples of the slip showing up on the web, the odds that all instances of “dully noted” are misspellings is vanishingly small. It has got to be an eggcorn (an eyecorn rather than an earcorn, I would say). And it’s a good one.

When one says, “duly noted” It means that the information received will get the attention and consideration it has due-<~ Duly.

That what you said has value and it will be taken down.

Yes, except that as Ken suggested, it is so often used in stuffy contexts that the boredom of its surroundings accretes to its meaning, and it no longer means just that. It’s the same process that guarantees that if you frequently use “Yeah, right” when you are only outwardly agreeing but inwardly scoffing, it cease to mean only agreement, but will come to have a meaning “Sure, and I’ll sell you the Brooklyn Bridge afterwards”.
