'path of the course' for 'par for the course'

For some who mouth ‘path’ as ‘paff’, par for the course is difficult to distinguish from paff o’ the course with the eggcornish imagery suggesting something inevitable or self evident, not too distant from the original’s meaning of usual, or not unexpected:

Re: 'path of the course' for 'par for the course'

Another good one, Peter. Common enough to pass mustard. I looked for “paff of the course” – no luck, however.

Here are some less reasonable alternatives. Par for the cause must be from the same semi-rhotic lands where “path of the course” originates since only one of the two r s is lost.

From rural Rhode Island
having nothing around to do, is pretty much par for the cause

From North Carolina
the memory of Jheri Curl activator on the neck of your favorite blouse was just par for the cause.

From South East Wales
As was par for the cause in those days – she beat him black and blue.

Part for the course : 1) a WTF error or 2) part of the meal service? or 3) part of a school course? My interpretive mirror is smoken by the word “course” in French, which is “competition, or race”, but I don’t see that here.

Movie review
The fight scenes aren’t bad, they’re just part for the course, exactly what you’d expect from any old boxing movie.

Re: 'path of the course' for 'par for the course'

As ever, David, your after-variants inspire further searching for more examples – there is something quite compelling about expressions which hover, tantalizingly, on the brink of meaningfulness:
