Google turns up lots of each, but no real answer as to which is the original. Sneaking makes more sense, but I know I grew up saying sinking.

For me a sinking suspicion is a suspicion (typically a sneaking one) which is accompanied by a sinking feeling. Not strongly eggcornish—feels like a sensible independent formation.
