'Fallback' for 'Fullback'

In soccer (and apparently in baseball and american football), the correct term for a left/right wing defender is a ‘fullback’. A lot of people seem to be calling them ‘fallbacks’. There is an obvious interference from the two word expression ‘fall back’ meaning a back-up plan, but here are some examples i found in google:

I want Martin White batting designated callback, I want Smith at first resume, AR Hipster at second resume, and Jordan Hinkes at third resume. Armen and Jesse I put out at left and right fallback. I think I have to put Petey Colosi aka “The Stallion” on the mound and Riley at “interview catcher.”

This is a tipical Mexican team and has much better 1-touch pass and ball control in the middle field than us. However, they could not get any closer to our box.
with tight mark by Zhu Jun and Cai Qi (left/right fallback defender), non-stopping runner James, our calm goalie (John) assured performance, and Alex’s slick ball
handling really annoying opponents.

AS Roma played a cohesive game of precise passes of long ball while Bari played short passes and very tough defense with fall back Xavier Russo
