I can imagine arguments for eggcornicity: the woman is possessed by two warring convictions—the idea that one should give children what they wish for, and the idea that one should spend money prudently. Or perhaps her hesitation to buy the bike makes her feel guilty, like a repentant convict. But both those lines of reasoning feel like a reach to me. I’d say it’s a malaprop.
