anomalous / unanimous

I’ve written a stage play and this line came to me:
We made sure you got all the votes. It was anomalous.
(from Three If By Air, by Stephen L Kirkpatrick)

I had decided it was a malaprop, but one with a surprisingly appropriate replacement. Then, today, I ran into this specious catalog of malaprops, called eggcorns. Or special category of malaprops. Sorry if that was a reach too far.

Please consider anomalous/unanimous in your forum.

Re: anomalous / unanimous

I’ve seen your interchange with Pat on the other thread, and I echo his welcome.

Anomalous for unanimous. Hmm. Definitely a funny slip. But to be an eggcorn, we would need to identify some semantic motivation for the switch. A Venn diagram of the meanings of these two words doesn’t overlap much.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
