I’ve been aware of this reshaping for years, but I haven’t posted it till now because I was convinced it was already up here somewhere. But for some reason I decided to check, and guess what? It’s not here – but it turns out I wrote this up three and a half years ago and never posted it. Huh. You get double the normal number of examples as a result.

An offer that’s rescinded does get “sent back” to the original sender in a certain sense, though of course it’d be more accurate to say the offer is “taken” back. This is impossible to count; many things that can be rescinded can also be resent, and some of them can be resented, to boot. In any case, instances are easy to find on discussion forums other than ours. Examples:

Voters rose up in protest and the county board tried to resend the increase but was not able to get 80 percent approval.

My boss calls from the bar and because I my schedule changed with my regular job to Thursdays,Friday, Saturdays off that would no longer work for them, it would mean changing everyone’s schedules to suit mine and it just wouldn’t work, although they’d love me to work there and will keep my resume on the top of the pile if something else comes available right now they’re going to have to resend the offer.
