"appeasiotomy" for "episiotomy"

An episiotomy is a small incision made during birth to ease the passage of the baby. The word is composed of Gk ἐπίσειον, episeion, for the pubic region, and -τομια, (-tomy), to cut. More than two thirds of mothers undergo this procedure in NA. The notion of easing the pain and difficulty associated with birth may be behind the image of an appeasiotomy.
