The Raft of God

Just came across this gem at newscentral.com, sort by comments Oldest First, go to page 7, look for gct30’s post.

I’m very excited by this. Should I get out more?

Re: The Raft of God

It googles fairly satisfactorily:

“I am AA, and the AA religious community fear the raft of God”

“They might face the raft of god if they do”

“The raft of God is something else”

But what do they think it means?

Fifty! Yeah!

Re: The Raft of God

Took me a while to figure out what the fifty connection was … ¡Congratulations, Juan!
.
I also am puzzled by how the imagery of a raft fits into the picture. Are we frantically (or feebly) treading water and God’s raft is bearing down on us, threatening to push us under for good?
.
Reminds me of a wonderful one-phoneme(/letter) slip where somebody said we don’t have to worry, because no matter where we are or what we are doing, God always has us in his sights.

*If the human mind were simple enough for us to understand,
we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .

(Possible Corollary: it is, and we are .)

Re: The Raft of God

Congratulations, Juan. I may forgive you now for the vas deferens.

The raft of God! A wonderful image that’s not totally coherent. Sounds terrible and mighty, however.
