I just mentioned “momento” in response to David’s post about dying interstate, then searched for it in the database and was surprised not to find it. I guess it’s more of a malapropism than an eggcorn, but it is uncomfortably common. When people use it, I like to say, “Yes, it will help you remomber the occasion.”

Hi Bruce. This has been submitted a few times; I did a roundup of earlier postings here: http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/forum/view … hp?id=3443

Clearly it doesn’t help you “remomber” the occasion, it helps you to remember the moment

I dismember momma. The conjugation of memory with “member” is suggestive. As a hidden eggcorn, to “remember” would be to reconstitute the structure of an event.

I feel another stanza coming on…
Remember has no member
Like forget has a get.
Liquorice is a liquor
But that’s an accident.
Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
