The idiom “to single out,†meaning to select one item from a group for special attention, has been around since the seventeenth century.
Some speakers apparently think the idiom is “shingled out.†I’ve listed four examples below from the dozen or so I found on the net.
The eggcorn logic, if such there be, seems to rest on the discreteness of shingles (as opposed to, say, a thatched or cladded roof) or on the common attention factor (“hang out a shingle,†“single outâ€).
Moderator of online Washington Post column: “This is Maura and I’ve been shingled out as your host today,â€
English town forum: “I wonder why this wondrous engineering feat has been shingled out â€
Blog comment: “The Dems are floating on a cloud of manufactured nonsense, with a manufactured rock star candidate, shingled out over the fog. The fall is going to be spectacular.â€
Page 322 of Acute Care Surgery as displayed in Google Books: “The best method is to shingle out the seventh rib…â€

Though I wouldn’t take the following too seriously, they do go in the same direction as “shingle out”. You have to think that they’re a bit too good to be completely innocent.
