Summerily

“My theory can’t be proven, but it can’t be summerily dismissed either

I get lumped in with these punks and summerily dismissed, but I don’t like them or identify with their whole ethos

Nevertheless family history researches cannot be summerily dismissed as they show that genetic

indicate what would be the case if employees were to be summerily dismissed”

If the misunderstanding involves it meaning “smilingly” then I claim it as an eggcorn. But it’s probably no more than a typo.

Re: Summerily

Militating slightly against the idea of it being eggcornish is the existence of things like the following, where the “happy/smiling/blithe(ly)” connection does not make any sense:

they tell me I’m good a summerising

he could send it to us in Spanish and perhaps include a summery in English for those who can’t read it.

But of course this only indicates the likelihood that many instances of summerily are similar misspellings; it cannot deny that some of them might be eggcornishly motivated in the way you suggest. The possibility of blending with merrily should also not be discounted.

we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .
