My Mote control

I know this one is strictly not an eggcorn, but my young son uses it all the time when requesting the TV remote, as in give me my mote control. Do you think it might catch on?

Re: My Mote control

What would it mean? Would we be trying to control a pixel or cursor which would be the mote? (btw, welcome to the forum, guitarman!)

Re: My Mote control

“Mote control” definitely seems to have achieved a limited bit of currency online—some users write ”’mote” with an apostrophe, making it clear that it’s not just a typo. Guitarman, is your son old enough to have picked this up from someone else?

Re: My Mote control

Might there be influence from “mute control”? (Plenty of examples on the web: most seem legitimate.)
