I don’t quite see the connection between common sense and “comment sense”. Any ideas? The eggcornometer is straining towards “mondegreen”. Perhaps the sense necessary to make an incisive comment? Sense worthy of comment? Be sensible to the point that it provokes comment?

I think you’re right. I could distantly discern some kind of meaning to ‘a comment sense approach’ in that it might be an approach that contains sense of a type that deserves comment or takes the form of a comment. But “Commentwealth Games” and ‘Virginia Commentwealth’ ?
