"Duck tape" for duct tape

I have often wondered what people thought they were saying when they pronounced “duct tape” as if it were “duck tape,” but people in the Midwest U.S. aren’t that fussy about articulating consonants, so I didn’t think people really meant “duck tape.” But then I saw it in writing on a website message board as “duck tape” in the context of making something out of duct tape.
