Nice find, and welcome to the forum, MJ in VA. It makes the best sense to me if you think of the fission as being nuclear, and therefore as a kind of energy. There are a respectable number of hits for this one, too, including fissions not only of fear but also excitement, nerves, happiness, panic, heat, pride, annoyance, electricity, alarm and relief.
