Carcinogenetic!

A former chemistry teacher of mine used to say this when meaning to say “carcinogenic”, and I’ve heard it in common usage since. A quick check of m-w.com indicates that “carcinogenetic” is not in fact a word.

I have found numerous medical articles (just Google “carcinogenetic”) that use the term, and it may be that it is the right word to use when describing the genetic processes by which cell becomes cancerous, but I don’t think that’s what most people mean.
