Old timers' disease for Alzheimer's disease

A Google searched turned up 588 incidents of this mangling of this German word, so it seems to be very common. For example, http://www.associatedcontent.com/articl … _with.html

Re: Old timers' disease for Alzheimer's disease

Maybe I am not supposed to post here. I do not know the rules. I am new. Forgive me.

BUT! Ten years ago, my neighbors in rural western Michigan told me that their grandpa had Oldtimers Disease. I guess it is a matter for high-level scholarly debate whether OLDTIMERS should have an apostrophe, and just exactly where the apostrophe should go.

This is already in the Database, though I’m not entirely convinced it should be. There was a fairly recent discussion of it elsewhere on the Forum: http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/forum/viewtopic.php?id=657
