As jan Freeman observes in today’s excellent Boston Globe column, ‘nonplussed’ has recently gotten a new use as a synonym for ‘unfazed,’ which is nearly opposite its standard meaning. Some writers, trying for that new meaning, write ‘nonpulsed.’ I suppose that you can be shocked by a pulse of current, so to be nonpulsed is to be unshocked.
