belle peppers

I saw a jar of stuffed peppers in a supermarket the other day with the label ‘stuffed belle peppers’. It wasn’t the brand name (which was ‘Always Fresh’, a common Australian brand of olives and other antipasto-type foods).

Google gives 2,050,000 hits on “bell pepper”, 2,450 hits on “belle pepper”. A lot of the latter seem to be deliberate puns (user names, cafes restaurants).

Re: belle peppers

Your story reminds me of an alcohol-free Mexican beer labelled “Sin Alcohol.” These Spanish words translate to “without alcohol,” but if one assumes that both words are English, one gets an amusing juxtaposition!

By the way, your posting name “prawn warp” is a palindrome. Is there a story behind it?

Re: belle peppers

“prawn warp” is one of a list of palindromes in an old science fiction story by John Sladek. I use it as a username because it usually hasn’t been taken…
