My age too. This was a hit when I was a kid, and my hearing of the first line—“Knights in white satin, never reaching the end”—always put me in mind of knights on endless quests; that seemed to fit in with the rest of the song. Years later I worked in a record store and was a bit startled to learn that the song was about bed-sheets.

That song exerted a powerful influence on my generation. One college friend laughingly substituted “cold-hearted orb that rules the night” any time she mentioned the moon.
