We use the cliche WITH REGARDS to close our letters and e-mails. We have another common expression IN REGARD TO, or WITH REGARD TO. It seems to be a very common mistake for people to say and write “in regardS to” and “with regardS to.”
People seem to mix up KIND REGARDS and TO REGARD i.e. TO LOOK AT. Am I being too picky? Is this just too obvious, so that nobody else has bothered to write in regard to this?

P.S. I know this is not an eggcorn. I tried to write it in the “Slips” category, but it showed up in this main forum.

I have long felt that “regards” are something you give to Broadway…and in addition, for syllabic economy, would it not be faster and easier to say “regarding” than the incorrect and cumbersome “in regards to”..?
