With “pushing their muscle around†we have what appears to be a neat blend of “pushing their weight around†and “flexing their muscleâ€.

“Pushing their weight around†is, for me at least, in turn, a blend of “throwing their weight around†with “pushing people around†(or just being pushy.)

Are yes, I forgot “throwing” of weight around. I knew that something seemed clumsy about “pushing”. We usually say “throwing” in this phrase. (But we never push or throw our muscles)

There’s also “throwing your way around.†It seems a bit awkward to me, and I suspect that nearly all the users are non-native speakers. But it may make some sense – the person throwing their weight around is trying to “get their own way.†It seems to occur most in E Asia and SE Asia. Examples:
