fold>>full: “ten full increase” for “tenfold increase”

Kem wrote on blindfold>>blindfull last year, in a post that eloquently unpacked the knotty lexical history of “blindfold” to boot. But this particular fold>>full permutation didn’t come up there. I find it a bit semantically awkward, but the “full” certainly communicates the sense of amplitude implicit in the “fold” element. It seems to be reasonably common, but it’s something of a pain to search for – so no count. Examples:

Due to the transformation of our global economy to digital economy the last 3 years alone a hundred full increase in the usage of internet and telecommunication network.

Since Obama said he liked it, their business has increased ten full.

I’ve been working against a rapidly approaching deadline for some time now, so I’ve gotten a little scarce recently. Thanks to the Davids in particular for helping to orient the (surprisingly large number of recent) newcomers.

Well-noted. I’m amazed that it has taken the forum six years to find this eggcorn.

a rapidly approaching deadline

As opposed to…a slowly approaching deadline?

There’s chronological speed, and then there’s emotional speed.

Some approach faster than others, and the pace always picks up at the end.
