"very gated" for variegated

Day lilies The Madame Ganna Walska has blooms that are pastel violet pink and are very gated green with bronze blotches.

Flower arranging These are a very gated aspidistra leaves, not always easy to find, but a plain aspidistra leaf that you’ve kept from a pot plant will be just as effective.

Looks like a veryant of veryclose veins. Very gated might be understood as “separated into quite distinct categories”.
