"wetted to the idea"

Caught in the wild in an LA Streetsblog post: … he-people/
(“wetted to their ideas”)

A Google search for “wetted to the idea” claims 6000 or so results, though about half of the ones on the top page are the same.

I guess the idea is that you’re stuck to your idea like a wet leaf?

(The original phrase is, of course, “wedded to the idea”)

Re: "wetted to the idea"

I like it, archcow. But as you say, there are nowhere near 6000 real hits for “wetted to the idea”; there are about 3. Try “wetted to the idea” -vinyl. Or try the alternative search engine, bing, which seems much better at winnowing. That is not to say that “wetted” for wedded does not occur widely in another form.

The usage seems to suggest that someone who is married to an idea is soaked in it, an interesting alternative image that says “eggcorn” to me.

Any chance of a big church wetting?

In Baptist churches, anyway …

*If the human mind were simple enough for us to understand,
we would be too simple-minded to understand it* .

(Possible Corollary: it is, and we are .)
