"Bruted" for bruited

Something bruited about is rumored, passed by word of mouth, exclaimed upon. In its native French, bruit, for ‘noise’, is pronounced as “bruee”, but in English it is a homonym with “brute”—except when referring to a noise heard during medical auscultation: that is still a bruee. The homonymy, combined with the risk of simple elision, make the auscultation of “bruted about” fraught. Bruted is perhaps most credible as an eggcorn when referring to brute nonsense.

Opera news
It’s been more than bruted about that the Met would dearly love to drop Mondays from its schedule and do Sunday matinees instead.

Political news comment
Comment from Calmeilles: Mr Brown behaved correctly within the constitutional conventions despite the media nonsense bruted about at the time.
Response from UnashamedPedant: Et tu, brute! (note the small “b”) With your French name, you should know about “bruit(er)”.
