The expression “got along famously” isn’t quite an idiom, but it has a very in-the-language feel and is somewhat standard for most. Even so, I’m guessing that some people aren’t comfortable with “famously” meaning “splendidly” since it departs from the most common meaning of “famous,” i.e., widely known. Given that, I would suggest that many use the expression “got along fabulously” as a substitute.
