Easy to see how this typo can happen. It unintentionally creates rather a pleasant image of the fireplace as the beating centre of the home.
I wonder if it’s always a typo or if some people have dissected it wrongly when they’ve seen it as one word: hearthrob. There are people who have even written it as “hearth rob” which is baffling:
25 Nov 2008 … The pop hearth rob says Blue once had the chance to steal Westlife’s pop crown at a time when the Irish superstars became complacent

I see I wrote heartthrob as one word with only the one t.
These double letters look wrong when they result from one letter from the end of one word and the other from the beginning of the next. Hard to process:
hattrick
and as for
skillless

Which reminds me: there is (at least) one English word that has three double letters in a row. Know what it is?

yup. (Or at least I know one. And derivatives of it, which may or may not count as “other” words …)

For those who don’t know: bookkeeper

Not everyone thinks that three letters in a row is illlogical. Ill-mannered, ill-prepared, ill-logical.
I dont get how frets higher up the board have to be closer together, it just seems a bit illlogical.

It is the thesis of this paper that the reasons given by the Bush Administration for its proposed war on Iraq are so completely ill-logical as to prove with certainty that the Administration is lying as to its motives.

Some don’t think it’s irrrational, but we’ll let them pass by in silence.

And misspelled/pelt often is.

“Illlogical.” A fascinating eggcorn.
Did you hear about the woman who lost her headmistressship because she claimed that there was an English word with three consecutive consonants?

Both Zack Efron and Justin Bieber are cited as teen hear throbs.
