"Steer" for stare

Stare comes from Germanic roots meaning, in the context, “fixed, stiff, rigid”. To steer at someone, if it is not to give them a bovine look, must mean to steer your eyes in their direction.

a girl screamed and pulled out her earphones violently. Everyone went quiet and steered at her. She went all embarrassed and said “Sorry, Miley Cyrus.”

Re: "Steer" for stare

Since all new cars are starting to look like eachother and even perform like eachother I can honestly say i’m staring clear of them.

But there was one person I carefully stared clear of: Jane Austen. You don’t mess with the Jane.

Cute program. I noticed they stared clear of the rumors that cane toads have been interbreeding with humans.

I always stare clear of processed sugars and even other natural sugars like Honey, Coconut Sugar and Maple Syrup.
