Buttonhole

I don’t see ‘buttonhole’ on this site…

Apparently, a buttonhole was originally a ‘buttonhold’.

Presumably then, ‘buttonhole’ began as an eggcorn, but has worked its way into the mainstream, displacing the original which is now archaic.

I guess this might be one of the oldest eggcorns?
