Eggcorns on Facebook

I recently started an open group on Facebook called the “Eggcorn Hunt Club”. Please, if you’re on Facebook, consider joining us. Let’s spread the eggcornese!

Interesting that the only member to have ever used an avatar on this site should have opened a Facebook group. Please make sure to transfer any finds over to the faceless crowd here on the forum! Please don’t make me join facebook. My brother warned me that there are things about my relatives I just don’t want to know.

Catherine, I don’t think Brooksie has posted here in about three years—she may no longer be reading regularly. You could try emailing her, however.

Re: Eggcorns on Facebook

Hi all,

I am still here reading contributions on occasion when I am not chasing after a lightning fast, nearly 3 year old boy.

I tried to revive the FB group but did not know how to migrate 200 or so members to the “new” group format. Really FB should have been able to do that for us in as much as they seem to know every other detail of my life ;-) We are still there with only three members now! Pitiful.

Cheers!

Laura

BTW, we have a couple of suggested eggcorns; one I surprisingly have not seen here:

ration of bacon << rash of bacon

Re: Eggcorns on Facebook

Hi Laura, it’s wonderful to hear from a distinguished illumina. If you’ve read the end of the year roundup you know that there are fewer regulars here, too. All the eggcorns must be hanging high these days, though we have had some nice ones just in the last few weeks. It’s almost been a rash of eggcorns.

I like “ration of bacon”, very egalitarian or calorie-conscious, but I have to admit that I’d never heard of a “rash of bacon”, either. The dictionary lists it as an alternate (or even the original) form of the word I know, “rasher”. I would have pegged a rash of bacon as a funny eggcorn, like an outbreak. But forgive me, up here we don’t even know what Canadian bacon is. Thanks to Wikipedia I do now know what barding, lardos, collops and flitches are, however.

Re: Eggcorns on Facebook

So I joined Facebook with the intention of joining the HPOTD group, and now not only have a lot of idiots I knew in High School that I have no intention or desire to talk to attempting to contact me, I cannot seem to find the HPOTD group referred to in this thread.
