just saw this one on a discussion forum, used in this context: “I would like to wade in on the homeschooloing debate.”
obviously the poster is referencing the familiar expression ‘to weigh in on…’, but by using ‘wade’ in place of ‘weigh,’ the poster provides a rather more vivid image. i’m picturing someone swimming cautiously towards a circle of people engaging in a discussion.

This is the kind of eggcorn which I wish I could find.
Google counts on Sept 7, 2006
2,430,000 “weigh in on”
12,000 “WADE in on” (not all relevant)
“Wade†probably derived from “weighed†rather than just “weigh†itself. And it didn’t seem to matter that the tense was lost!
I’ll add a few more examples for you:

I concur Rorschach, definitely 24 “carrot”. Particularly because the user of this phrase believes they are using it in its original form.

They’re well aware of eggcorns over at the Language Log… I’m thinking that find would likely be a cultivated eggcorn—rather than one captured in the wild.
There have been few additions to the Database over the duration that I’ve commented on this website… Perhaps a dozen since August 2006.

If I may return to the 2006 discussion, there is a related idiom: to wade into a controversy etc. The phrase wade in on may be a blend of wade into with weigh in.

ah, yes good point. I would have assumed that a poster on ll would know the original phrase, but didn’t consider that it might be intentional from a commenter. Thanks for the info.
oh and now i see nilep’s response, thanks folks…
