I was secure in my belief that itis was a straightforward suffix meaning inflammation of, until I looked it up. And, as usual, no. It turns out that it is a bridge leading to nowhere; it means of the and was originally followed by nosos, “disease”, which was tacitly understood, maybe, for a few years, after it was dropped.
“cide”, one the other hand, is another avatar of our old friend caedere. Appendicides does sound appropriately deadly.
Was not appendicides it was just some stupid hurting virus or something that was living off my inestines and bowels. Wierd huh? Basically a really bad cold.
