In high school, sick at home with chicken pox, I answered the phone to the school nurse. She was calling to let us know that my little brother had also gotten the chicken pops!
I think this must qualify for eggcorn status, given the topographical nature of this affliction…. : )

I agree. It sounds like an eggcorn to me.
Even the notion of pox “popping up” here and there applies.
