flatjack << flapjack

A flapjack, except in some areas of the UK, is a pancake. The first syllable of the word “flapjack” derives from an obsolete word for flipping with a flick of the wrist/arm.

Flapjacks are flat, which perhaps precipitates the occasional switch to the less opaque “flatjack.” Examples:

Blog entry: “ Flatjacks: Every Thursday morning, my mother would make us pancakes for breakfast before school.”

Faux recipe: “you have 2 put the flatjacks on the skillet.”

Video showing how to make flatjacks: “ flatjacks from scratch with the redneck”

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

Winner. Might be most appropriate for crepes.
