"pallet" for "palate"

This one has only been mentioned in passing previously on this site. Here’s an actual example, another “intelligent” eggcorn from the Mensa Bulletin (November/December 2011 issue, page 36): ”...such research could someday eliminate human developmental problems, such as cleft pallets.”

Hard to see enough of a meaning connection to make it an actual eggcorn rather than just a misspelling, although most meanings of “pallet” refer to some sort of broad, flat thing which could easily be imagined to have a cleft in it, so maybe…?
