'pumpitations' for 'palpitations'

I thought I heard someone pronounce palpitation as pampertation, but there doesn’t seem much mileage in it. Another little vowel change, however, takes us well into eggcornish territory:

Well i took my clen in the mornings one dose, i dont like that buzz and heart pumpitations when training, and i took the reverject in the evenings with the beta sleep.

...he is cute, tall with fair complexion, talented, simple and funny!!...everytime i see him..my hearts pumpitation is going …

... about us today. everytime i thought about u i would get upset and get heart pumpitation.

...then you get heart pumpatation’s,you take the good with the bad,you have to accept what is…

That’s a great addition to our “popitations” from last year: http://eggcorns.lascribe.net/forum/view … hp?id=5355

We have one person on the net who thinks that the word is “palmpitations:” http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/e … stion.html

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

Re: 'pumpitations' for 'palpitations'

Pumpitations brings to mind the peripatetions of pompatus. The original word, invented by R&B artist Vernon Green, was puppetutes of love, before Steve Miller mondegreened it to pompatus or pompitous. Well, that is, if two made-up words can form a mondegreen, and I don’t see why not. But a better version appeared in an obit in Rockin’ Radio News:

Green’s famous recitation on “The Letter” contained the nonsense lyric, “the pulpitudes of love,” which was later picked up by Steve Miller as “the pompitudes of love”

Ah, the pulpitudes of love. They can lead to serious heart pulpitations, which will just pulp your heart’s steady rhythm.

I have been suffering with heart pulpitations since my teens

often when this happens, just prior to burping, my heart goes into pulpitations. Again I have had heart pulpitations for over a year now but never at the time of burping.

Carrying too much weight doesn’t help much either:

The very thought of Bee Buckett still gave the Ravenclaw sever heart plumpertations. He often wondered how she was, what she was doing …

Thanks for unravelling the pompatus riddle, David. And I found I’d somehow melded Steve and Frankie Miller into one Glaswegian singer. If Arthur and Henry had entered the mix, I’d never have untangled them.
