"Ron day view" for rendezvous

Words borrowed from other languages present unique opportunities for eggcorn fun when their foreign origin is not suspected. We’re slowly working our way through the crop here on the forum. One of the best eggcorns of all time is day view for the expatriated French word debut. The current entry, “Ron Day view”, bears obvious similarities despite the completely different acorn. I’d imagine that the eggcorning event began with a substitution of “view” for the opaque “vous”. Then came “day”, related to the time of the appointed meeting. Now what? Time for a Lehman’s term to complete the picture. It must be associated with some guy named Ron. I guess Ron viewed someone on a certain day and that led to us memorializing that momentous meeting for all time.

We are due to have a Ron day view with him at 0700 tomorrow morning

The following fanfic has an impressive number of Cupertinos – it’s worth the visit for those with a taste for silicon. I’ve included one of the most striking. But ron-day-view must have been original.

Harry slid a thigh between her lags sliding them open forcing Cho into have to wrap her lags around his waist to seaport herself. {...} This little ron-day-view between both teenagers weren’t knew to the either of them, Harry and Cho had been having Secret Fun Time together since Harry’s fifth year after Cho’s boyfriend Cedric Diggory had died in the tournament.

Finally, this first person account could be a cute entry to our Words you read but mispronounced in your mind

Embarrassing revelation
I thought the word “rendezvous” was pronounced Rend-EZ-Vows until I was 21. I would read the word constantly and understood the context but had no idea why I never heard anyone actually say it. Then one day I looked at it and said, “you know! That word is used in almost the same way as the word ron-day-view and then it finally clicked.

Re: "Ron day view" for rendezvous

I think I smell a rotten eggcorn here, one that has its origin in a play on words. Some of the examples you cite may be using “ron day view” with the full knowledge that it is a pun. Always hard to tell without the written equivalent of a wink, though the ones with the dashes (“ron-day-view”) and the capitalizations (“Ron Day View”) look suspect. Others may have picked up the odd spelling from seeing the pun and not catching the joke.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.

Maybe not rotten, but it is ungainly, gnarly even.
