Only about 10 occurrences of “flotsam and JETTISON” on the web.
The proper term is “flotsam and jetsam” ...things thrown overboard. Since jetsam gets jettisoned anyway, it’s easy to see how the two words might get interchanged if one isn’t listening carefully enough.

...And, for what it’s worth, there’s also “flotsam and JETSON.” “Jetson” may have originated with “jettison” or it may have originated with “jetsam.” But, with a little wishful thinking, we can all just pretend it was inspired by the cartoon “The Jetsons.” (Again, only about 20 citings on the web).

That is an unusually candid admission. Or maybe he’ll be tossed from a jet over the riding?
It was salutary for me to look over the evolution of the terms jetsam and flotsam, to see how they’ve changed through time, so that a modern concern over proper spelling seems so arbitrary. Flotsam was flotsen for 250 years before it became flotsome – that is, for anyone who took the trouble to spell it in a manner other than phonetically. Look at this book of sea law from the mid-1600s. It’s The Maritime Dicaeologie, Or, Sea-Jurisdiction Of England, and in the 9th chapter they cover the right of the Admiralty to recover goods from all manner of Forestallers, Regraters, Dearthers, Rebels, Traitors, manifeft Tranfgreffors, and Fugitives from Juftice:
So to the Admiral goes any and all jetson, along with any mear-swine* and sturgeons that happen to beach themselves. Etymonline says that jettison is just jetsam, verbed.
* You know, merpigs, or what you may call, porpoises.
