episodic << epizootic

When reading this thread which had at one point drifted into discussion of epizutic << epizootic, I though to check for another variation.

There is a disease of deer called Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease (EHD).

There are a number of references to “episodic hemorrhagic disease.”

News report: “Eleven Kentucky counties have reported an outbreak of episodic hemorrhagic disease, or blue tongue.”

An “episode” can refer to an instance of an illness or abnormal mental state and there is the phrase “episodic illness” in the sense of Irregularly recurrent illness.
