"mono on mono"

Two first person accounts convinced me of the validity of this reworking of mano a mano, after I heard it used on the radio. The first hit showcases the eggcorn brain at work. “Mono%” on a blood count refers to the frequency of a type of white blood cell.

OP: What does MONO% mean??
R: mono on mono means one on one so I would say one percent.
Yahoo questions

OP: what is a proper foxing dog?
R: never been into foxing …but if your running a dog on any quarry it should be able to do it single handed …..mono on mono….....doubling up is for girls… :whistling: .
OP: What is mono on mono?....and its ok to double up if your female?
R: mono on mono = one on one… :victory: ...

Re: "mono on mono"

Thank you. We been so transfixed in this forum on the mano=man interpretation of mano-a-mano that we missed this equally beguiling insertion of “mono.” Many examples of “mono-a-mono.” It was noted by Cecil Adams at The Straight Dope in 1996.
