cease up < seize up

To seize up is to suddenly cease all activity or motion. Lots of hits:

When taking rests, treat it as a warm down and don’t just stop or your legs may cease up; do some stretching.

And longer-term, thermostatic shower valves can cease-up resulting in costly repairs or replacement.

Either way, with even just a sprinkling of the wintery blanket, the United Kingdom tends to cease up faster than an engine with no oil.

I likened it to being a mack truck cruising along at full speed only to have your entire engine cease up on
you, stopping you dead in your tracks:

Sometimes it’s just hard to keep track.

Dang. I did look: just looked with the wrong terms. Sorry about that!

kkkk. I knew it was there, it took a lot of work to find it.

(I like the Brazilian expression for online chuckles).
