Speakers and writers who insert a “d†into “cajole†may just be poor spellers, but they may also be blending it with “cadge.” See the Google hits for cadjoling and cadjoled for examples.
“Cadge” is possibly a cognate of “cache/catch.” “Cajole” derives from two separate words for cage. The Merriam-Webster site delves into its curious etymology.
