Brick and motor << Brick and mortar

In the LOPSA list, ”...more profitable robbing than holding up a brick and motor Bank…”

Physical storefronts can be driven to. Also, wasn’t “motor bank” an old term for a drive-up teller?

Re: Brick and motor << Brick and mortar

Lots of examples of “brick and motor” on the net.

See the uptick in the frequency of “brick and mortar” in 1995, the year the Internet took off? The old metonym got new life as a contrasting phrase for “online/internet-based,” I suspect.

Hatching new language, one eggcorn at a time.
