"rabid punch" for "rabbit punch"

Is that the type of punch thrown by a rapid fan of the opposing team?

“Rabbit punch” is a fairly opaque term—what does a quick, chopping blow (esp. to the back of the head/neck) have to do with rabbits? The writers appear to feel that it’s a punch thrown with, say, rabid fury. Examples:

The only deduction was for a blatant rabid punch. That punch was a serious shot too, could’ve caused some serious injury.

and the second was a guy that landed a very hard rabid punch on me and another punch around my right ear which I felt on my left ear(weird!).

I agree that it was a cowardly act but if you take a look at the incident in question the punch to the head was definately less severe than that rabid punch that Johnson through on beukeboom a couple years ago impact wise.
